The other day, I came across an American’s blog where he decided to bad-mouth China because he’s siding with Tibet and their cry for Independence. At that point, I was thinking “how would you guys feel if your states started to demand independence, one by one?”

Today, when I was chatting on MSN Messenger with one of my Sey-buddies I received a China Daily MMS that I subscribed to yesterday. One of the titles caught my attention: “Hawaiian Seeks Independence”. I had to burst out laughing…in fact, we both LOLed.

This is perfect timing for Hawaiians, especially because the Olympic committee had such a hard time dealing with all these Tibet-related sabotage attempts. It makes perfect sense for the US to just let Hawaii go at this point in time. Americans are so good at talking the talk, let’s see them walk the walk.

As the Chinese celebrates their 58th National Day today many university students in Shanghai have returned to their homes located in the other provinces. In China, the public holidays usually last for a week.

On the first of October 1949 at Tian’anmen Square, Chairman Mao Zedong (???) declared in front of three hundred thousand the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Today is surely a reminder of that moment in Chinese history. The Chinese really have something to be both proud and happy about…and there’s no better time to review and consolidate their devotion to Communism, than the lucky month of October when the 17th National Congress will convene in Beijing.

Thus the Beijing paramilitary police have really out shined themselves this year where keeping peace, security and Black people at bay is concerned. Apparently, last Monday night/Tuesday morning Beijing police decided to conspire against a bunch of dark-skinned individuals at some club over at Sanlitun. According to Beijing Newspeak (beijingnewspeak.com):

The paramilitary police sealed off the street at both ends, then moved in, said a witness surnamed Wang.

Some Africans entered the vans peacefully but others tried to flee and the police used force, added Wang, who works on the street frequented by young foreigners.

Other witnesses said the troops targeted anyone on the street with dark skin.

No other site have elaborately explained the incident quite like Guardian UK though. This is a must-read article:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/china/story/0,,2177013,00.html

I wasn’t there, I didn’t see anything. I’ve only read about it online. My foreign friends in Beijing didn’t even hear about it and a Chinese friend there denies it. Nevertheless, it’s been written all over the net. This has already been one heck of a story. If ‘downright injustice’ could be made into a movie, this particular incident would be their storyline.

I’m not concerned about the Caribbean diplomat’s son who was also involved in the drama. I don’t give a rat’s ass whether there were any Black Americans in the batch. They were all most likely regarded as “Africans” and that’s why I find this story interesting. The plain and simple truth is this: only one particular race was targeted in connection with drug dealing and this fact alone proves discrimination…a word that was probably invented by the Whites at their reign of blatant superiority.

Do White people not take drugs? Do the Chinese not take drugs? Why were the police only after the Blacks? How can ALL Africans be considered poor yet everyone of them deals with drugs? Aren’t drug dealers rich? Isn’t drug dealing considered “lucrative business”? The Chinese should get their facts straight.

Now I’m not saying 0% of the Blacks in China are drug-free. What I’m saying is this: we can only assume a particular person is on drugs…and the assumption can’t be made by the colour of their skin.

So while the Chinese take this week to reflect on how wonderful it is to be Chinese, others will be focusing on the negatives…and you can’t really blame them, or can you?

A day of Celebration…for some anyways!

“The Brotherhood” - Are they for real or is this just another prank?
In an unprecedented move this week a group calling themselves “The Brotherhood” sent shock waves in the country when, in a chilling message reminiscent of international terrorist groups and broadcasted on SBC television, they threatened to target certain individuals in society which they claimed are the “pillars of dictatorship”. The “Brotherhood” claim that their mission is “to exterminate the pillars of dictatorship and corruption from our country”. They say that “membership of this project is now open to every young man and woman who feels betrayed by the SPPF abuse of our democratic rights”.

Whether “The Brotherhood” has been formed as a reaction to the incident which they have dubbed “Black October” is not clear. However, the question which remains unanswered is whether “The Brotherhood” is a serious organization with a mission or is this just another prank? The message which was accompanied by a picture of a rifle and printed on one A4 sheet seems to be a prank but the Commissioner of Police went on television to inform the public that the police are taking this matter seriously. Protection will be offered to the people mentioned as targets in the message, he said, although the form of protection was not revealed. Experts are yet to determine whether the message is genuine but one is strongly reminded of similar messages sent by terrorist groups around the world to announce their intention before they strike. It is not clear whether “The Brotherhood” is a bunch of copycats but the implication of such a message being propagated in the Country and abroad is enormous, especially to the economy of the country as tourists and even the US navy warships may be reluctant to come to our shores.

Although the group claimed that they are not affiliated to any political party the Commissioner of Police disputed that. However, he was careful not to mention any political party on television. If indeed the group is linked to a political party then parallel can be drawn with the IRA of Sein Fein movement of Northern Ireland or Fatah of PLO Movement in Palestine

and even the ANC of South Africa which at one point in their turbulent history had armed wings which engaged in armed struggles alongside their political activities. The content of the communique is unprecedented in Seychelles and it remains to be seen whether future communiques will be released. The persons identified by names as targets in the pamphlet are said to be nervous and have expressed grave concern for their safety and security and that of their immediate family, friends and relatives.

Seychelles is not known to be a breeding ground for terrorist. The Country has enjoyed relative peace, calm and tranquility since the end of the one-party state era until the incident of 3rd October 2006 at the National Assembly when the SNP leadership claimed they were violently attacked and assaulted by members of the Security Forces at a peaceful gathering. Pictures of Jean-Francois Ferrari and Wavel Ramkalawan drenched in blood were displayed in the national media and made their way internationally via the Internet reaching the International Community at large. Both Annette Georges and the Commissioner of Police were interviewed by BBC radio giving an international dimension to the local incident. The BBC even carried a journalistic piece about the incident on their website which was published in Le nouveau Seychelles Weekly last week as the paper covered the incident extensively. Whether “The Brotherhood” has been formed as a reaction to the incident which they have dubbed “Black October” is not clear. However, the question which remains unanswered is whether “The Brotherhood” is a serious organization with a mission or is this just another prank?

The police are taking seriously a malicious publication which is circulating 13.10.06

The commissioner of police Gerard Waye-Hive has said that the police are treating in a very serious way, a publication which came out on Thursday 12th October threatening high government officials.

In that publication, a group which has identified themselves as ‘Brotherhood against Dictatorship’ has threatened to kill high government officials.

Commissioner Waye-Hive has asked the public to remain calm but at the same time become a little more vigilant and share information they have with the Police force concerning the publication.

Commissioner Waye-Hive has said that numerous investigations have been initiated to identify who is behind the publication.

Commissioner Waye-Hive has all the same, asked the public to continue with their everyday transactions in a normal way and there is no reason to panic concerning the situation.

According to the publication, which is supposedly the first in a series, the group was formed the 3rd October this year following the *accident in front of the National Library that day whereby the police were confronted by members of the SNP Political party who were protesting against an amendment passed in the National Assembly that day.

The members of the SSU force, which played a key role to disperse the crowd that day, in addition to commissioner Waye-Hive himself, are amongst the group of individuals who were threatened in the publication.

Commissioner Waye-Hive has said that even though whoever is responsible for the publication has claimed no affiliation with any political party, the police believe that there is a political motive behind that publication.
The police have said that for the meantime the publication is being circulated by fax, but that all the same there is no trace to know where it comes from.

Except that it was an *incident and not an accident that happened outside the National Library early this month…I’ll post the pics right now…
